It’s hump day so you know what that means…..time to show some love to our ingredient of the week. This week I’m shining the spotlight on the juicy, sweet, floral nectarine. Nectarines are pretty much the bomb as is, I could probably eat 10 to 112 a day if that wasn’t completely unacceptable behavior.
But sometimes you want to gussy things up. So here are some ideas for cooking with nectarines from some of my favorite food blogs in the blogosphere.
Hungry Girl Por Vida took some nectarines, combined them with raspberries and made these adorable, portable Nectarine and Raspberry Hand Pies. You know I’m a sucker for any pie I can carry around.
Warm Chicken Salad with Nectarines and Peppers from Southern Souffle is the perfect thing to make for your next under-the-desk-Hulu-picnic at work.
Nectarine Mint Milkshakes might sound like a strange combination….but it’s not. I tried it. Trust me.
The Flourishing Foodie is one smart girl. This Blackberry and Nectarine Crisp is exactly what you are supposed to do with berries and stone fruit. Combine, top with something crunchy, bake, then eat warm with cold ice cream.
How is it that Oh, Ladycakes manage to make dessert seem so healthy? I love her for that.
Buttermilk in any dessert is guaranteed to be good but these Nectarine Buttermilk Cupcakes with Honey Whipped Cream from Cookie + Kate sound divine.
Check out Heidi’s Champagne Summer Shortcakes. Nectarines and figs drenched in a honey-champagne syrup then served with crisp shortcakes and scoops of melty ice cream. I want to live with Heidi, do you think she would think that is weird?
Fennel, Beet, and Nectarine Salad—an interesting and utterly delightful combination from Happy Yolks. Psst. She used peaches, but it would totally rock with nectarines.
My friend Brigid used to make white nectarine sorbet that was out of this world. This White Nectarine Ice Cream from Gaby is kind of like that but better….’cause it’s ice cream….with sour cream in it.
And who doesn’t need a cocktail? If you can’t see me I’m over here frantically waving my hand. This Nectarine, Gin, and Ginger Fizz from Heather Christo Cooks looks just about perfect.
