It’s Friday, you might be experiencing a blizzard, so what better time to introduce our next contender for Drink of the Winter 2016?!
Besides, it’s about time we dive head first into all the glorious citrus fruits that are flooding the markets right now. Even here, in the inner most reaches of the country, I am able to find kumquats, loquats, cara cara oranges, and ruby red grapefruit. Not to mention the most stunning of them all—blood oranges.
It has been my experience that blood oranges are more style than substance. Maybe that’s because they have had a journey similar to the Iditarod before their arrival on my grocery store shelves but for some reason the ones I picked up last week were sweet and sultry and, dare I say, perfect for a cocktail?
I love a salty dog for it’s simplicity as much as it’s color, plus the salty rim—I’ll drink just about anything with a salty rim. Have you made the other cocktails? Quick! Before you get snowed in, run to the store and grab the ingredients, then you can spend all weekend trying them out, I’ll post the links below. Don’t forget to leave me a comment and let me know which one is your favorite. Stay warm. Take shoveling breaks. A pair of gloves under mittens is my secret for warm hands. Lots of love from North Dakota!
