¡Hola! Welcome to Sunday!

How excited are we that it’s the first weekend of summer?

Here at Casa Ramos we got our garden planted this week, which was a HUGE accomplishment. We completely transformed a corner of our yard into a beautiful spot with gravel walkways and raised beds and I’m absolutely in love. This house is starting to feel like a home.

This summer I’ve planted:

  • Chepil
  • Summer Squash
  • Miltomate Criollo {Tomatillos}
  • Sweet Basil
  • Chocolate Beauty Sweet Peppers
  • Epazote
  • Flor de Jamaica
  • Jalapeños
  • Black Krim Tomatoes
  • Blacktail Mountain Watermelon
  • Golden Nugget Cherry Tomatoes
  • Rosso Sicilian Tomatoes
  • Crackerjack Marigolds
  • Zinnias
  • Sweet Corn
  • White Eggplant
  • Zucchini
  • Guajillo Chiles
  • Chile de Arbol
  • Spinach

I haven’t planted a garden in three years and I didn’t realize how much I have missed it. Many of these seeds I planted—the Guajillo chiles, zinnias, marigolds, watermelon, and more—are from a seed exchange I did with Lola from Lola’s Cocina and Nicole from Flan and Apple Pie a few years ago when I had my last garden in North Dakota. At that time I had no idea we’d be moving. I’ve carried those seeds around with me waiting for their new home. Watching them grow this summer will be like having a little bit of these beautiful women in my garden with me.

What do you have planted in your garden this year? Leave me a comment and let me know. It’d be fun to share garden adventures as the summer progresses.

In other summer news, Roberto, my favorite stone fruit grower was back at the Farmer’s Market this week with these blushing apricots and cherries. Peaches and nectarines will be here soon! Now if I could only get my hands on some rhubarb I could make these Mini Rhubarb and Apricot Crisps.

In kitchen news, I’ve rounded up 9 delicious recipes that should cover dinner, breakfast, and even cocktail hour. Have a wonderful week!

  1. Cilantro-Lime Corn on the Cob from Floating Kitchen
  2. Breakfast Tostada Bar from Lola’s Cocina
  3. Blackberry Pineapple Rum Cocktail from The Little Epicurean
  4. No-Cook Peanut Butter Rice Noodle Salad from This Mess Is Ours
  5. Chipotle Shrimp Fajita Bowls from Nutmeg Nanny
  6. Zucchini Pesto Pasta with Roasted Almonds from Snixy Kitchen
  7. Grilled Vegetable Skewers with Zhoug from Sarcastic Cooking
  8. Smoky Bourbon BBQ Sauce from Vanilla and Bean
  9. Chicken Taquitos from The Modern Proper
