  • There’s been a familiarity in the last couple weeks. Like a catapult that’s shot the four of us back to our tiny house in rural North Dakota in the dead of winter ❄️. Although now we aren’t stuck at home because it’s -32 degrees F outside but because there’s a worldwide pandemic—clearly a much bigger deal. In the North Dakota days when we had played all the games and baked all the cookies and watched all the movies, when we just HAD to get out of the house, we’d go for a “drive-walk”. 🚙💨 It’s like going for a walk, but you know, you can’t, because it’s too damn cold or you’re tired of walking and want to go further. It’s also similar to going for a drive except you wander about with no real direction mostly just listening to music and looking for random junk people have left in their front lawns with a “Free” sign on it. Yesterday we piled in the truck and went for our first Drive-Walk in a very long time. It’s a retreat I highly recommend.   • I did all our shopping today for at least the next week and now that we are all buying in bulk much more than usual. I thought I’d share a few tips for keeping perishable things like fresh herbs, meat, and vegetables last longer. • Wash fresh herbs 🌿 like cilantro, then wrap in paper towels and put back in the plastic bag. Stored in the veggie bin, it should last a week. • I bought enough meat 🥩 for a whole week but only refrigerated what we would eat tonight and tomorrow. The rest went in the freezer. • Heads of lettuce 🥬 get washed and dried with the salad spinner. I keep mine in the salad spinner in the fridge or wrap in paper towels like the herbs and place in a plastic bag if I don’t have room. What are your best food storage tips?
